Windows Troubleshooting: ACPI MSFT0101 Error
Device Security Issue
If you encounter the unknown device hardware ID ACPI MSFT0101, it typically indicates a Security Chip Trusted Platform Module (TPM) setting issue. Here's how to fix it:
Solution:
- Navigate to Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Security > Device security.
- Under "Security processor," select "Security processor details."
- Click "Security processor troubleshooting."
- Check the device details. If it shows "ACPIMSFT0101," it pertains to the TPM module without a driver.
- Unfortunately, there is no 32-bit Windows 7 driver for this device. Upgrade to 64-bit Windows 7 and install the provided hotfix.
Note that this solution is only applicable to 64-bit Windows 7.
Background:
The TPM issue usually stems from an Intel RST software update. After the update, the laptop reboots, and the Windows login PIN stops working, prompting you to create a new one.
