Windows Troubleshooting: ACPI MSFT0101 Error

Device Security Issue

If you encounter the unknown device hardware ID ACPI MSFT0101, it typically indicates a Security Chip Trusted Platform Module (TPM) setting issue. Here's how to fix it:

Solution:

  1. Navigate to Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Security > Device security.
  2. Under "Security processor," select "Security processor details."
  3. Click "Security processor troubleshooting."
  4. Check the device details. If it shows "ACPIMSFT0101," it pertains to the TPM module without a driver.
  5. Unfortunately, there is no 32-bit Windows 7 driver for this device. Upgrade to 64-bit Windows 7 and install the provided hotfix.

Note that this solution is only applicable to 64-bit Windows 7.

Background:

The TPM issue usually stems from an Intel RST software update. After the update, the laptop reboots, and the Windows login PIN stops working, prompting you to create a new one.
